How I meet you

As Clare Biedenharn states in her book Heart to Heart, “There are no right answers in providing spiritual care, except those that bring comfort and help the individual find meaning.” My wide lens approach rests on offering deep emotional and existential care that encourages access to an individual's own wisdom and resourcing. The specifics of each encounter are shaped by a person's unique culture, religion or spirituality, as well as their family history, lived experience, and the meaning they ascribe to their reality. Chaplaincy pioneer, Anton Boisen, referred to this as a “living human document”. I pay close attention to each person's background to assess their needs using evidence based and trauma informed models.

“The goal is not to make life problem free, but to give ordinary life the depth and value that come with soulfulness”

“Don't throw away your suffering. Touch your suffering. Face it directly, and your joy will become deeper. You know that suffering and joy are both impermanent.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

As a spiritual care provider, I have found that suffering can offer a doorway into Self and carries with it an immense existential gravity. Jungian psychologist Lionel Corbett writes, “If the divine is never further away than our suffering, then our suffering becomes the beginning of our spirituality." As such, learning to be with ‘what is’ is a main tenant in my provision of care. I will never try to “take” or “remove” others’ pain, which is so personal and potentially transformative. Whether you have lost a loved one, animal companion, your faith, home, vocation, received a new diagnosis or are looking for greater self-awareness and direction, as a chaplain and Jungian coach I will meet you where you are at with respect and compassion.
